Gwent police
announce new two-day Bikesafe workshops
Heddlu Gwent Police have announced the dates for Bikesafe 2004
events in Gwent.
This year, for the first time, two-day weekend workshops will be
staged. These will be based on the highly successful model pioneered
by North Wales Police and will cost £80.
Bikesafe is an initiative run by police forces to help lower the
number of motorcycle rider casualties. By passing on their knowledge,
skills and experience, police motorcyclists can help riders become
safer and more competent by increasing their ability and confidence.

The
two-day workshop content will include a mix of theory, motorcycle
related first aid, maintenance issues and on-road assessment rides.
The workshop is designed to enhance the skills of riders who have
already passed their test. It is particularly suitable for those
who may be returning to biking after a period of absence, and sports
bike riders.
Weekend workshops will take place 3-4 April, 31 July 1 August
and 18-19 September. Further details are available from the Bikesafe
website www.bikesafe.co.uk.
In addition, the popular one-to-one, accompanied ride-outs from
Abergavenny bus station will take place once again this year. These
last one hour over a variety of road types, and at the end of the
session there is a thorough de-brief in which constructive advice
and comments will be given and questions answered.
There is no charge for these assessed rides and riders can book
on the day. The ride-outs will take place between 10am-4pm on 2
May, 6 June and 26 September.
