Road safety
kicks off at Turf Moor
In association with the national THINK! campaign, Lancashire
County Council's Road Safety Group sponsored Burnley Football
Club's First Division match against Gillingham on Saturday 7 February.
As part of the sponsorship, drivers were reminded 'Don't Drive
Tired' and free stickers, air fresheners and leaflets carrying
the fatigue message were available for fans on the day.
Youngsters attending the match were given free reflective Burnley
Football Club stickers to remind them to 'Be Safe, Be Seen'
during the winter months.
"The link with Burnley Football Club provided an ideal opportunity
to access the local community and raise awareness of road safety
messages to a key target group - young active people," said
Hazel Harding, leader of Lancashire County Council.
"We are committed to continuing to improve safety on the County's
roads - the work of the THINK! campaign sits well with the County
Council's own vision of Travel Easily and Safely."
Burnley's chief executive, Dave Edmundson, said of
the campaign: "Burnley Football Club is delighted to be one
of over 60 Football League Clubs supporting the THINK! road safety
campaign. Football provides the perfect medium for speaking to young
men and families, the target audience for most THINK! campaigns.
"Burnley FC is at the heart of our local community and there
is much we can do to raise awareness of road safety initiatives."
