Pupils win
prizes for posters
Two Kent schoolchildren - Rachel Hall and Georgina
Munns - were presented with gift vouchers last week for
posters that highlight strong road safety messages to the county's
motorists.
The poster competition was launched when the Kent & Medway
Safety Camera Partnership and Kent County Council's Road
Safety Team visited St Botolph's School, Gravesham to teach
the children the dangers of speeding. Rachel and Georgina's posters
have been sent to all primary schools in Gravesham and will also
be used in exhibition units.
The education day at St Botolphs saw pupils using a mobile
safety camera to record speeds of passing vehicles, and analysing
the data to see how many motorists were over the legal speed limit.
It also included teaching the children to be safe and be seen,
and asking them to guess the distance it takes a car to stop at
30mph.
Communications officer for the Kent & Medway Safety Camera Partnership,
Rachel Moon, said: "The posters were excellent
and extremely colourful - highlighting the message that road safety
is an important issue that affects everyone. Safety cameras are
an important tool for reducing casualties but education is just
as vital in helping to change attitudes of road users."
