Dorset re-launches parent safety scheme

Dorset County Council has joined forces with Dorset Fire and Rescue Service to re-launch its Parent Safety Drive project.

The scheme gives parents the opportunity to refresh their driving skills in a one-to-one practical driving session with an experienced ADI.

Nearly two thirds of Dorset's child casualties are car passengers injured in crashes on roads with speed limits of 40mph and over.

The sessions include appropriate speed, hazard awareness, dealing with distractions, fitness to drive, reverse parking and encouraging park and stride on the school run.

Dorset CC has pledged to enable more than 1,000 drivers to participate in driver refresher sessions every year as its commitment to the European road safety charter, which it signed recently.
