RAC unveils Streets Ahead
The RAC is to launch Streets Ahead, a multi-media resource pack for secondary schools, at the end of this month.
The pack is part of the RAC's Grass Routes curriculum initiative and brings the issues of sustainable transport and road safety to the classroom - with a strong emphasis on the School Travel Plan.
Streets Ahead supports the curriculum for Key Stage 3 Geography and PSHE/P7-S2 Environmental Studies and PSD. It supplies a complete set of tools to deliver three or four lessons.
It has been written in conjunction with practicing teachers and is endorsed by the DfT and the Department for Education and Skills.
Streets Ahead is also linked to the Grass Routes 2006 competition, which requires students to submit a manifesto for creating a safer, more sustainable school run in their area. The closing date for entry is 5 June.
The Streets Ahead pack is also available to RSOs and School Travel Plan advisors by email, streetsahead@euroworld.co.uk. There is an upper limit of five Grass Routes packs per RSO.
"It would be great if RSOs could encourage their local schools to use the pack and enter the competition," said Ann Skey, RAC's head of public affairs. "There are bikes and helmets for the winning team and an interactive whiteboard for the school - and there are 200 runners up prizes of music vouchers."
For further information contact Ann Skey on 020 8917 2756 or ASkey@rac.co.uk.
