Sporting heroes support mobile launches...
The campaign to remind drivers of the imminent introduction of tougher penalties for illegal mobile phone use was supported by sporting heroes at a series of regional launches last week.
From 27 February, the fixed penalty will include three penalty points as well as doubling the fine to £60.
In Chelmsford, James Foster, England and Essex cricketer, urged shoppers not to get 'caught out' by the changes to the law. RSOs, police and fire officers were also present to talk shoppers through the changes.
In Leicestershire, Leicester Tigers' rugby players teamed up with police and road safety officers to mark the countdown to the new law - and urge drivers to 'kick mobile use while driving into touch'.
And in Carlisle, the Safer Roads for Cumbria partnership distributed leaflets featuring a coffin with a floral tribute designed as a mobile phone.

Footnote: RoSPA has issued a warning that drivers 'should not be deceived into thinking hands-free kits are safe'.
RoSPA is also urging employers to make it part of health and safety policy that using any type of mobile phone while driving on company business should be a disciplinary offence.
