| Police issue winter road safety message
Police in Carnoustie, Monifieth and Muirhead are issuing letters to parents or guardians of newspaper girls and boys urging them to reinforce the winter road safety message.
Officers are asking adults to ensure that if their child uses a bike for their paper round it is roadworthy and fitted with lights during the hours of darkness. It is hoped that highlighting the potential dangers to parents through the advisory leaflet will help to ensure that no child is cycling virtually unseen during dark mornings or evenings.
"In addition to having lights on their bike, newsagents have stocks of reflective vests that we hope young newspaper deliverers are wearing when on their rounds," a police spokesman said. "Police officers have been stopping youngsters on bikes that have not been displaying lights and issued appropriate advice, or a warning, where necessary."
