Six year old helps recruit SCP

A picture drawn by a six-year-old girl has helped a Daventry school recruit a new school crossing patrol - after almost 12 months when the job has been vacant.

The new SCP for Falconers Hill Infants and Junior School is set to start soon - after flyers using the picture drawn by Leonie Stubbins boosted interest in the job.

Until then there had been little response to newspaper adverts, community notices and direct appeals to parents by the school and the county council.

SCP area supervisor, Rebecca Howard, said: "Finding new SCPs is a national problem because there simply aren't enough people coming forward. It takes someone very special to do this job, given the unusual work pattern and the challenges of the busy school run.

"However, it is a role that is very highly valued by our communities, and Leonie's picture seems to have captured that."

The picture will now be used on flyers to advertise other SCP vacancies in the county. As a mark of thanks she was presented with a gift from the council's school crossing patrol team last Thursday.
