South Gloucestershire backs THINK! biker campaign

The new THINK! campaign to encourage drivers to look out for motorcyclists is being supported by South Gloucestershire Council.

To coincide with the national TV and radio campaign the council will be putting up temporary road signs at motorcycle accident hotspots as an extra reminder to drivers.

Pat Hockey, executive member for planning, transportation and the strategic environment, said: "Our statistics show that too many motorcyclists are being injured in road accidents in South Gloucestershire because drivers are failing to see them - particularly at junctions.

The temporary road signs were used last year when South Gloucestershire launched a similar road safety campaign under the slogan, SMIDSY (Sorry Mate, I Didn't See You).

The signs aim to encourage drivers to log onto the campaign website, www.smidsy.co.uk, to find out more about why motorcycle accidents happen, and how they can keep an eye out for motorcyclists.

The signs are being put up at sites where there have been three or more motorcycle related accidents in the past three years, and other routes with a high percentage of motorcycle accidents.
