Speed awareness course passes 50k milestone

Lancashire County Council's speed awareness course, which was set up in 1999, recently passed the 50,000 participants landmark.

The course is offered to drivers who have marginally broken speed limits as an alternative to penalty points. Participants are taught to be more aware of the dangers caused by excessive speed and the consequences of breaking limits.

The 50,000th motorist to take the course was Colin Bradley, who said he did not realise at the time he had been travelling too fast.

"I do not live in Lancashire but I definitely think the course should be held in other parts of the country because attitudes need to change," Mr Bradley said. "The course teaches you that road users need to concentrate at all times."
