New concept for Doncaster pupils
As part of a new interactive presentation, primary pupils in Doncaster are being taught circus skills - and then make comparisons between these skills and those required to cross the road.
Peter Oliver, Doncaster's senior RSO, says the project 'uses new concepts to engage young children in what has in the past been perceived as a somewhat boring subject'.
This way, That way commenced on 8 January and ran for two weeks (20 performances in schools). It was performed to classes of approximately 35 Y5 children - and supported by classroom packs for teachers, which explore the issues raised in the performances in greater depth.
The programme was delivered by xvii theatre, a local TiE company that has delivered a range of issue based programmes in Doncaster schools in recent times about smoking cessation, racism, bullying, rural poverty and recycling.
