International campaign launches children's competition

The Make Roads Safe campaign has launched a competition open to children between the ages of 4-11 years.

Make Roads Safe is an international campaign to raise awareness of the 'growing epidemic of global road deaths'. Annually 1.2 million people are killed and 50 million injured on the world's roads - most in developing countries.

The competition challenges children to name the Make Roads Safe zebra and write a short story or poem about keeping safe on the roads. The winners will be invited to London to receive their prize from HRH Prince Michael of Kent and, the winners' schools will receive £1000 each.

The competition is being promoted via a leaflet that is being sent to every school in the UK from today, and on the campaign website, www.makeroadssafe.org.
