Dangers highlighted in road safety pantomime

Road safety officers in Leeds joined the world of amateur dramatics this Christmas when they performed their road safety pantomime, 'The Gift of Life' , at primary schools in Beeston.
The 20 minute performance featured Santa 'who ate all the pies' Claus, Rudolf the 'rapping' reindeer, 'Scary Mary' the Christmas Fairy, Neil Downe and his mum, Ida Downe.
Although the pantomime brought lots of seasonal fun and entertainment to local children, it also included serious road safety messages about the importance of children staying safe when on or near the city's roads.
Leeds' road safety team has worked hard in the Beeston area of Leeds over the last two years to try and reduce the number of child pedestrian accidents. The intensive work seems to have paid off, with recent statistics showing a big reduction in child pedestrian casualties.
Councillor Andrew Carter said: "The pantomime was a seasonal and humorous way of getting across serious messages. It will remind children to think about their own safety and to always be aware of the dangers that are around them."
