Camera
scheme launches biker campaign
The national Safety Camera Scheme has launched an advertising
campaign targeting motorcyclists. The campaign broke in the July
issue of Bike magazine and targets bikers during the summer months
when they will be enjoying good riding conditions.
"The message behind the ad is deliberately subtle," says
Susan Beck,
spokesperson for the Safety Camera Scheme. "In an ideal world
we would like bikers to ride within legal speed limits at all times
but riding safely is just as important.
"Road Casualties Great Britain was published earlier
this month and during 2003 biker casualties increased by 14 per
cent. The real tragedy is that some of these crashes could have
been prevented. High speed accounts for a significant proportion
of tragedies and using the roads like a 'race track' is dangerously
unsafe.
"Super bikes or race bikes can and do have the capacity to
travel at very high speeds," Susan Beck continues. "All
we are trying to say in the ad is that bikers should consider retraining
if they upgrade to a highly powered machine. Hopefully with the
right training for the right bike we can help bikers to keep biking
safely at all times."
