Wheels
for All gives Wakefield youngsters new opportunities
A new scheme to help youngsters with disabilities or behavioural
problems to learn to cycle has been launched by Wakefield Councils
Travel Awareness Team.
The team is working with the Wheels for All cycling project,
which is funded by Children in Need. Wheels for All helps people
with autism, behavioural difficulties, hearing impairments, visual
impairments and physical disabilities to ride a bike.
Special schools across Wakefield are being visited during July to
give youngsters the opportunity to try out a healthy activity -
and at the same time have their confidence boosted.
"This is an important boost for cycling in the District and
is helping our overall aims of social inclusion and life long learning
and achievement," said Nick Butler,
travel awareness trainer, who organised the events. "By working
in partnership with Wheels for All we are sharing expertise and
equipment to suit the needs of the cyclists and provide opportunities
where they dont already exist."
