Drink driving - would you take the gamble?

Scratch the card and see what you've won - a £5000 fine, a 12 month ban, or six months in prison.

These are some of the options on a lottery style scratch card being given out by Hertfordshire County Council's road safety unit in a bid to combat summer drink driving.

The scratch cards were handed out at the recent Music on the Moor event in Hemel Hempstead and will be distributed at other summer events across the county.

Nearly a quarter of drink driving accidents in Hertfordshire occur in the summer and a large number of these involve 17-30 year olds - despite the fact that they have grown up with hard hitting drink driving campaigns.

"The scratch cards are an excellent way to catch the attention of the 17-30 age group because they are a novelty and require some thinking about," said county councillor Stuart Pile , executive member for Transportation and Environment.
