1 in 2 admits drink driving
Half of Britain's 32 million drivers admit to getting behind the wheel after having a drink, according to a survey by insurer Direct Line.
Researchers also found that one in 15 - one million motorists - said they flouted the legal limit.
RoSPA's Jo Stagg said: "The UK has one of the highest drink-drive limits in Europe. We want to see that lowered, coupled with wider police powers for breath testing."
The survey also shows that older drivers are more likely to think they are within the law, even though they had consumed more drink. 10% of over-30s drank four or more units of alcohol, compared with 8% of under-30s. But 7% of older drivers thought they would fail a breath test, compared with 5% of younger motorists.

Metropolitan Police say drink-drive arrests in London hit an all time high last month.
In the period 5 June to 5 July, officers made 1,446 arrests, compared to 1,409 in the same period last year. The increase has been blamed on the World Cup and the long period of warm weather.
In response, the Metropolitan Police are upping their efforts in static vehicle checks. This involves slowing the traffic to a crawl and selecting individuals for vehicle and driver checks.
