Residents support safety day

Islington residents came out in force to support Islington's Council's first Road Safety Day in Highbury Fields on Sunday 23 July.

A partnership approach was the day's theme with a myriad of activities engaging the diverse Islington community and focusing their thoughts on safe travel.

Charlie the Chicken was on hand to help raise awareness of road safety issues alongside activities including the seatbelt safety sledge, cycle stunt show, road safety puppet show, drink-drive and non-alcoholic cocktail bar.

Liz Wathen, road safety & special projects manager, said: "It's been extremely encouraging to see so many members of the community attending to learn more about road safety issues. We hope this will become an annual event.'

Volunteers from Safer Neighbourhoods Police, Transport for London, Children's Traffic Club, London Safety Camera Partnership, Traffic Police, Islington Cyclists' Action Group, Living Streets and RoadPeace also attended the event.
