Police and road safety unit join forces to cut speeding

DYFED Powys police and Powys County Council's road safety unit have joined forces in an attempt to reduce the speed of motorists.

Pupils from Radnor Valley County Primary School joined the school liaison officer, PC Lyn Heard and the road safety project officer, Sarah Morris in a speed survey using the latest laser technology.

The pupils from years five and six were given the opportunity to use the gun to assess the speed of passing motorists.

PC Lyn Heard said: "It is hoped that this scheme will develop from a monitoring programme into a driver education scheme. I hope to give offending motorists the opportunity to explain, to the children, their reasons for excess speed.

"I would expect a motorist, who would have to answer to a group of school children, to modify their future behaviour while using the roads."
