Genesis Group
takes unconventional approach
Hard to reach groups in particular young drivers - are always
a problem for road safety professionals.
Often the best people to influence young drivers are their peers,
and with this in mind Warrington Road Safety Partnership
has created the Genesis Group.
Under the scheme, fire cadets drawn from all sectors of the community
are initially trained to Observer standard by the IAM. "Advanced
training with the IAM is seen as something for 'old gits', but by
taking this fresh approach we hope to dispel this image," says
Maureen Theobold, road safety manager, Warrington
Borough Council.
The Genesis Group is described as enthusiastic and totally
committed, and takes an unconventional approach. "At
present the group is organising a major car-cruise event with the
backing of local businesses," Maureen Theobold says. "Skid
car training and 'street-cred' road safety will be on hand for car-cruisers
from all over the region. By working alongside road safety and police
officers, we hope the Group will give us the edge at events like
this."
