Please close this window to return to the LARSOA news pages Pit stop pampering for truckers Free head massages and bacon butties were laid-on recently for truckers in Cumbria to raise awareness of the dangers of driving while tired. A professional masseuse took a hands-on approach to the problem by offering stress-busting sessions at Penrith Truck Stop. Free haircuts, giveaways and a prize draw were all part of the Safer Roads for Cumbria initiative. The event was backed by the Freight Transport Association (FTA) , which represents half the UK's fleet of goods vehicles. "It's time to scotch the mistaken belief that you can fight off sleep by opening a window or turning up the stereo," said FTA's Stephen Kelly. "To really stay alert you need to take a 15 minute break every two hours." For further information contact Kate Stark, PR co-ordinator, 01228 601009. www.larsoa.org.uk
