RoSPA recognises
two road safety professionals
Two people who have performed outstanding road safety work have
been given RoSPAs top award for individuals.
Graham Feest, secretary of the Association of Industrial
Road Safety Officers (AIRSO), and Professor James Thomson
of Strathclyde University were presented with RoSPAs Distinguished
Service Award for road safety at the Societys recent National
Road Safety Congress in Cardiff. The presentations were made by
John Howard, RoSPAs chief executive on 2 March.
Graham Feest (pictured above, right) has helped AIRSO develop and
thrive as a respected road safety organisation and has made an important
contribution in many areas of accident prevention. "I am delighted
for AIRSO, as this award is not only for myself it is also for my
colleagues," he said. "I would not be able to do my work
successfully if I didnt have the support and help of others."

The
award given to James Thomson (pictured opposite, right) is for his
work in research and development at Strathclyde University. This
has been fundamental to the development of practical child pedestrian
training, which is now an important part of local authority training
programmes and the Governments Road Safety Strategy.
"I am very touched to receive this award as RoSPA itself is
always so receptive to new ideas in all areas of safety," he
said.
