Road safety
course makes drivers aware
Lancashire County Council's Speed Awareness
Course
is proving a success, with drivers showing their support for the
scheme.
The course is designed for those caught speeding at 35mph in a 30mph
zone - to make them aware of the difference that five-mph can make.
"When people first arrive they can be disgruntled," said
Christine Gibson, senior road safety officer. "But
by the end of the day there's quite often a change and they find
they've enjoyed the experience.
"According to drivers who've taken part the course changes
the attitudes of speeders thanks to good humour, sensitivity, expert
instruction and the gentle, polite and friendly instructors."
The one-day course involves classroom activities and a practical
driving session with an approved driving instructor. Clients have
the option to pay the fine and have three points endorsed on their
licence or pay a fee and attend the course.
