Football
and road safety working hand in hand
Somersets Road Safety Unit sponsored the recent Nationwide
Division Three fixture between Yeovil Town and Cambridge United
on Saturday 28 February.
The Unit promoted the For my girlfriend young driver campaign on
the day and a large banner was produced for local schoolchildren
to carry onto the pitch. (see pic). Other smaller banners were also
used around the pitch perimeter.
The local radio station, Orchard FM, raffled off four pairs of tickets
for the match, which was an important one for the home side as it
pushed for promotion to the Second Division. In addition, ten guests
enjoyed a lunch provided by the Club prior to kick off.
Rina Cameron, Somerset's road safety manager, is delighted
with For my girlfriend.
"We have had masses of interest," she says. "I've
conducted seven radio interviews to date and we've had very good
feedback from college students in Somerset where we have been to
spread the message by giving away roses, postcards and pens.
"We are also using bus back posters and three radio commercials
and a number of people have remarked on these as well," Rina
adds. "I'm very pleased with the way it has gone and we will
definitely be using the campaign again next year."
