UK ‘first’ – superhero delivers road safety strategy

On 23 February Bedfordshire County Council launched its Road Safety Strategy in spectacular fashion. In what was a ‘first’ for the UK, super hero Captain Safety delivered the strategy document in person.

The serious business was Bedfordshire’s road safety team unveiling its strategy to reduce accident casualties across the County, with the involvement and support of stakeholders and partners.

"As with all road safety strategies the content includes education, engineering and enforcement," says Bill Brady, Bedfordshire’s road safety team leader. "Bedfordshire's innovative ‘Flowers’ campaign highlighted how a relatively inexpensive initiative can catch the public’s imagination."

Captain Safety was ‘flashed’ passing a camera on his way to deliver the strategy. Although severely reprimanded, he was nevertheless proud to have beaten 30mph on a pedal cycle!

The Captain Safety Roadshow is aimed at 7-8 year old children and features a groundbreaking electronic puppet show.
