New transportation
qualifications receive approval
 |
The
Qualifications & Curriculum Authority and the Scottish Qualifications
Authority have formally approved new occupational standards for
transportation infrastructure, which have been developed by the
Transportation Vocational Group (TVG).
During 2003 TVG conducted a national consultation on draft new occupational
standards. This followed a comprehensive review of the existing
standards and new proposals for higher level vocational qualifications
for the transportation sector.
Responses to the consultation helped the development team improve
the draft standards and as a result they were endorsed by the Construction
Industry Council Standards Panel - the organisation that oversees
all higher level standards and National and Scottish Vocational
Qualifications (NVQs and SVQs) in the construction sector.
TVG, in partnership with the Open University Awarding Body (and
SQA in Scotland), will now seek accreditation for the N/SVQs based
on these standards. These awards will be called National Transportation
Qualifications, to reflect their development and ownership by
the sector.
TVG is actvely promoting the new National Transportation Qualifications
to Government, clients and employers.
