THINK! car seat campaign will break next week

A new THINK! child car seats poster campaign will break nationally on 28 March.

The campaign will set out to ensure that parents and carers put their children in the correct child seat for its age and size, and that the seats are fitted properly.

Use of child car seats is very high for babies and very young children and then drops off sharply - awareness of the need to use booster seats after the age of six is low.

Research conducted for the THINK! campaign in November 2003 showed that 94 per cent of respondents with a child aged up to three years said that their child always travels in a purpose made restraint, but this dropped to 66 per cent for children aged four to six years, to 41 per cent for children aged seven to nine years - and to 26 per cent for children aged 10-11 years.

The campaign will catch parents and carers when they are out and about with their children, and exploit the higher footfall in shopping centres and the increased traffic on motorways during the Easter school holidays. The A3 poster will appear on baby change panels in motorway service areas and shopping centres nationally between 28 March and 27 April.

For full details about the campaign, including details of where posters will appear, go to the members section of this website. Then click on 'DfT communications'.
