Students witness 'crash' horror

400 students from Lancaster and Morecambe College witnessed a recent simulation of a crash involving five young friends who had been drinking.

Jacqui Thompson, chair of Lancaster District Alcohol Partnership, said: "The north west is the worst region for binge drinking in England, and Lancaster has a very high young population as a university town. With thousands of new and soon-to-be 'invincible' young drivers on our roads, it is all too often a recipe for disaster. It is imperative that we find a way of getting through to them."

Linda Sanderson, communications manager for Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety, added: "The real life stories that we hear about young people in accidents on our roads are chilling. A single lasting image from this hard-hitting drama may just be enough to stop a split-second fatal decision to have a few drinks before driving, overtake on a blind bend, or not bother with a seat belt."
