Mum launches campaign

Colleges, universities, leisure centres and sports grounds across Lancashire featured the 'Missing Matthew' poster campaign in the lead up to Mother's Day.

For Ann Hannon, Mother's Day is yet another heartbreaking hurdle to be overcome. Her son, Matthew (22), lost his life in January 2006 racing his car against his mate.

Ann says: "I wish I could turn back the clock and say something to him about his passion for fast, sporty cars and the way he drove. Through this campaign I am appealing to all young drivers to think how their mothers would cope without them and to beg them please to just slow down."

Linda Sanderson, communications manager for Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety said: "Matthew's death remains a tragedy for everyone who knew him. We hope this campaign will hit home with those young drivers who think they can handle fast driving and feel that they are invincible. Matthew wasn't and the loss of him has devastated his family."
