Bedfordshire
pilots older driver seminar
The Bedfordshire Road Safety Team held an experimental Older
Drivers Seminar at Silsoe Conference Centre on 8 May to inform
more mature drivers of the way that the ageing process affects driving.
During the first half of 2003 two thirds of all fatal collisions
on Bedfordshires roads involved older drivers a situation
that clearly needed to be addressed.
Road safety team leader Bill Brady led the seminar
and was accompanied by other team members. The seminar provided
information for attendees on a wide range of subjects including
speed reduction.
"On completion of the session each attendee was offered the
opportunity of a free driving assessment to outline their strengths
and weaknesses," Bill Brady says. " If the seminar is
a success more will be planned later in the year. With Observation,
Anticipation and Planning we can all became OAP safer
drivers," Bill Brady concludes.
