Caerphilly tots make early road safety start

Children as young as three have been learning about road safety at Bookstart in Caerphilly library, with help from the Children’s Traffic Club.

Bookstart worker Ruth Pinney taught young tots the basics of road safety using a story that focused on holding hands to stay safe from one of the Children’s Traffic Club books (see pic).

In the following craft session parents and children cut out drawings of their hand to hang on a tree and everyone sang a Children’s Traffic Club song, This is the way we all hold hands.

The Children’s Traffic Club is an educational road safety initiative sponsored by Caerphilly County Borough Council and the Welsh Assembly Government. Every three year old in Caerphilly is entitled to join the club and is sent a bright yellow invitation letter in the month of their third birthday. Children who join receive a new Children’s Traffic Club book every two months, which parents can use to help teach children fundamental road safety information.
