Cheshire
launches new scheme to build driver confidence
In an effort to encourage drivers to check out their driving skills,
and build driver confidence, Cheshire Road Safety Unit has
introduced a new driver assessment scheme.
"We receive a number of enquiries from older drivers who would
like their driving skills checked out, as driving conditions have
changed considerably since they took their driving test," says
the Units Peter Gordon. " We also receive
calls from drivers who have been involved in a road crash and wish
to regain their confidence by having their driving assessed."
The scheme comprises:
- a
one hour driving session in the clients own car
- an
informal briefing offering an opportunity to discuss any areas
of concern
- a
verbal report
- and
a copy of the assessment report sheet.
Participants
also receive a certificate on completion of the scheme.
"This is not a test but an enjoyable and confidential assessment
of driving that takes a look at a drivers strengths and weaknesses,"
Peter Gordon adds.
The Granada TV presenter So Rahman has had his driving
assessed through the scheme. "Luckily Ive never been
involved in a major accident, but I do know that if I was a scheme
like this would certainly help me regain my confidence on todays
busy roads," he said.
According to Peter Gordon, although the scheme is aimed at individual
drivers, companies wishing to comply with health and safety requirements
have also shown interest in it. "Companies often request a
theory session covering defensive driving techniques to run alongside
the on-road sessions," he says.
