..presenting road safety across the UK

ROAD SAFETY NEWS - UPDATED 17 MAY 2004

Motorcycle TV campaign scheduled for Bank Holiday weekend

A new burst of the Think! ‘Now you see him, now you don’t’ motorcycle commercial has been booked to coincide with the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of May.

Road safety professional will be aware of the serious casualty problem among powered two wheel riders. In 2002, there were some 7,030 riders killed or seriously injured in the UK.

"Motorcyclists are clearly vulnerable road users and we are seeing an increasing number of them in urban areas," says Stephen Bethel, Think! campaign manager with responsibility for motorcycling. "We are hoping that the advance notice of this campaign may enable RSOs to co-ordinate local activity, particularly in urban areas, to coincide with the TV advertising."

The commercial highlights the dangers posed to motorcyclists by drivers making right turns without first checking their blind spot - one of the most common causes of motorcycle accidents. The campaign sets out to encourage motorcyclists and drivers to look out for each other. The campaign will run on terrestrial and satellite channels, targeting major conurbations, across the coming holiday weekend.
