BRAKE plans Record-Breaking Walking Bus

The road safety charity Brake is inviting primary schools around the country to take part in the 2005 Record-Breaking Walking Bus event on Wednesday 15 June.

The Record-Breaking Walking Bus aims to get children around the country to simultaneously take part in a short, supervised walk along pavements around their school.

According to BRAKE, last year 11,000 children from 120 schools took part - but this year the charity has set itself a target of 50,000 participants.

Teachers who register for the event will receive guidance notes on how to run their walking bus in safety, a road safety teaching pack, worksheets, posters and placards.

In order for the event to officially break a Guinness Record, each school must have two independent witnesses, and some schools may ask their local RSO. This involves accompanying the walking bus, ensuring children's names are recorded and signing a statement to say the event took place.
