Kylies
on tour in Wakefield
Wakefield Council's Road Safety Section has teamed up with Warburtons,
the family baker, to promote a walking to school safely competition
for primary school children in the district. The campaign features
two new road safety mascots - Kylie the kangaroo and baby Joey.
The 'Keep safe, Keep Fit with Kylie' campaign encourages
children to take more exercise, particularly by walking to school,
and teaches essential road safety skills. Children are encouraged
to take part in a competition to win a host of prizes including
two mountain bikes and pogo sticks.
"We are pleased to be working with Warburtons to get the road
safety message across and encourage children to take more exercise,"
said Peter Hemming, Wakefield Council's road safety
engineer. "We are hoping that Kylie and Joey will capture the
imagination of Wakefields children."
Road safety gifts and balloons featuring Kylie will be given to
all children entering the competition.
Scott Wallace, general manager of Warburtons
Wakefield bakery said: "At Warburtons we are passionate about
road safety and reinforcing safety messages across our communities.
This initiative is a great way of spreading the word in a fun yet
informative way."
Kylie will tour the town's supermarkets until 6 December and then
make a number of guest appearances in order to raise road safety
awareness throughout Wakefield.
