Teddy tumbles
- onto the web!
Warrington Road Safety Unit, in partnership with Warrington Grid
for Learning, have made Teddy a favourite part of the
WGFL website.
Teddy Takes a Tumble was originally a storybook written by
students studying for a Diploma in Childcare and Education at Skelmersdale
and Ormskirk College, after they completed a study of seatbelt and
child restraint usage outside schools, shops and leisure facilities.
The book was then developed into a road safety campaign by LARSOAs
northwest group, which received a commendation at the 2002 Prince
Michael Road Safety Awards.
Now part of the Warrington Grid's Foundation Stage on-line resources,
the Teddy story has been 'voiced-over' by pupils at a local school
and sound effects have been added. Children are then asked to try
to match the sound effect at the appropriate time in the story.
Although the site is aimed at children, adults also seem to enjoy
making the cat miaow!
"75 per cent of child casualties in Warrington are injured
as car passengers and having quality resources like Teddy means
that we can explore new and exciting ways of delivering road safety,"
says Maureen Theobald, Warrington road safety manager.
