New ADI Guide published in Lancashire

Lancashire County Council’s Road Safety Group has produced a new road safety guide to help learner drivers understand the rules of the road and encourage safer driving.

Left to right: Graham Shaw (DSA), Gillian Roberts and Dot Riley (road safety advisers), and Dave Hodgeon, supervising examiner (DSA).

The ADI Guide is an A4 ring binder complete with wipeboard, designed to assist Approved Driving Instructors (ADIs) with in-car one to one training. Over two-thirds of Lancashire's ADIs are now using the guide as part of their instruction with learner drivers.

"The ADI Guide has been well received by instructors and is proving to be a useful aid within the car," Neil Cunliffe, road safety group manager explained. "The unique wipeboard facility allows ADIs to tailor the guide and their comments to each individual client. It has been developed as part of our commitment to working in partnership with Lancashire ADIs."

The six-page guide includes important information on issues such as vehicle checks, weather warnings and speed limits. Two new pages covering mobile phones and road markings are currently being developed.

One ADI who is making full use of the guide, Joe Comerford, said: "I think it's great. I use the guide all the time and it's great for descriptive drawing. I keep it in the boot and use it on all my lessons, for learners and on courses."

The Guide also has the backing of the Driving Standard Agency's (DSA) assistant chief driving examiner Graham Shaw.
