Camera partnerships
launch new website
A new website carrying information about safety cameras and the
workings of the safety camera scheme was launched last Friday.
The site, www.nationalsafetycameras.co.uk,
provides links to all camera locations in the UK. It also aims to
dispel some of the myths surrounding the effectiveness of safety
cameras, and give everyone the opportunity to find out more about
safety camera schemes in their local areas.
"Members of the public have taken the time to contact us and
the one thing they want is information about this scheme,"
Susan Beck, national spokesperson for all the safety
camera partnerships in the UK, said.
The AA Motoring Trusts head of road safety, Andrew Howard
added: "We know that 86 per cent of the population
think that the roads would be safer if drivers kept to the speed
limit. Our surveys also show that over 70 per cent of drivers think
that speed cameras are an acceptable way of enforcing speed limit
laws, but this proportion is much lower than it was four years ago.
"Because of this we feel that action has to be taken to reassure
drivers that cameras are there for safety and are not just to raise
money. The safety camera system needs transparency to keep public
support and initiatives like this website will generate more trust
in the system."
The new site was launched at a Travel Lodge on the A43 in Towcester,
Northamptonshire. The hotel is providing guests with new door hangers
designed for the launch of the site and a handy travel toothbrush
carrying the slogan brushing up on my speed limits and
the website address.
