| Train company drivers, says company boss
All company drivers should attend a training course on alcohol and drugs before getting behind the wheel, a company boss from Telford urged last week.
Mike Ward, general manager at Budget Gas in Telford, made his appeal after attending a course run by Telford Training Consultants (TTC).
After attending the course himself, he sent all 12 of his drivers who deliver liquid petroleum gas across Shropshire, Staffordshire and mid Wales, on the course.
The course dispelled myths such as breakfast 'soaking up' the previous night's alcohol, Mr Ward said. It also contained information for parents on the strength of Alcopops drunk by many young teenagers, with two bottles having more alcohol than a pint of strong lager.
"Many people say they only have a glass at home but it is probably a quadruple measure compared to a pub. As an employer, Budget Gas deemed it necessary for its drivers to be given this information," added Mr Ward, who drives a 120 mile round trip to work every day.
