| Pop star backs teens campaign
Fame Academy singer Lemar is backing a campaign by Lancashire's road safety team to urge teenagers to remain alert when out on roads in the county.
The pop star features in a poster campaign that is running in high schools across Lancashire, after research indicated that four out of 10 teenagers have come close to being involved in a road accident. In 2003, there were 80 killed or seriously injured and 401 slight injuries in the 12-16 age group in Lancashire.
"Life is full of distractions - whether it's mobile phones, your mates or just your mind on something else," said Lemar. "You need to keep your wits about you when you're out and about on the roads."
Clare Farrer, principal road safety adviser added: "We're trying to encourage young people - particularly those in their early teens when most of the deaths and injuries occur - to make sure they are alert on the county's roads. We want to reinforce road safety messages through the campaign in a way that still supports their independence."
