| Transport minister stops off in Wakefield
Transport minister David Jamieson visited Wakefield Council in October to meet the Travel Awareness Team and to see schoolchildren taking part in a pedestrian safety training scheme.
The road safety trainers were working with pupils at St James' Junior and Infant school to help them develop better road safety skills. The school has two road safety promoters who act as ambassadors - making contact with the Travel Awareness Team for information, and peer contact with the children to improve road safety surrounding the school.
"This is a valuable service which aims to raise awareness of road safety skills for young children," said David Jamieson. "This is important work at a grass roots level which helps to meet the Government's aim of reducing pedestrian casualties."
