Premiership stars back school safety campaign

Bexley Council and Premiership football club Charlton Athletic are working in partnership to distribute thousands of reflectors to help keep local children safe as they walk to and from school.

The latest initiative forms part of the Walk to School campaign and Bexley's road safety team and 'The Addicks' are distributing 22,000 football-shaped reflectors to every primary school child across the borough.

Charlton striker Jason Euell launched the campaign at Bedonwell Infant School in Belvedere and was joined by fellow Addicks players Stacy Long and Mark Ricketts.

"When we saw the number of children that were being hurt travelling to school we thought we could help," said Addicks' community scheme officer Sean Daly. "The reflectors are a great way of helping children to be seen and by using football stars to promote the message, hopefully the youngsters will be more inclined to take note."

The reflectors can be fastened to bags or clothing to enable drivers to see children more than 150 metres away.
