| Foolish speeders targeted in Scotland
The latest phase of the Scottish anti-speeding TV campaign Foolsspeed launched on 8 November. The campaign focuses on how people's attitudes and behaviour towards speeding impacts on their wellbeing and other drivers.
Scottish Road Safety Campaign statistics show that 58 per cent of cars exceeded the speed limit on 30mph zones in 2003 with most motorists driving an average of 10mph faster than the limit.
Foolsspeed aims to change the way drivers think about speeding in urban areas by challenging their beliefs in their driving ability and highlighting the benefits of driving at appropriate speeds for the conditions.
"Speed is a major factor in one out of every three road accidents and a contributory factor in most others," said Michael McDonnell, director of the Scottish Road Safety Campaign. "Hopefully in this ad, the target group will recognise themselves and their behaviour and adopt a much calmer driving style."
