1000th pace setter joins anti-speed initiative

More than 1000 Cheshire people have signed up to the county's Set the Pace campaign in the 12 months it has been running.

Set the Pace asks motorists and passengers to make a personal written commitment to drive at appropriate and legal speeds, in a bid to tackle concerns about the speed of traffic in local communities.

To mark the occasion the road safety unit presented the 1000th 'pace setter', a Mrs Vickers, with a celebratory cake at her home.

"Set the Pace is a great scheme to get people involved in trying to cut speed," said John Burke , executive member for Highways and Transportation. "The initiative allows local communities across Cheshire to take responsibility for driver safety and well-being in their area."

In total 1087 people have signed up to Set the Pace in its first year - and 14 community groups across the county have run local campaigns.
