DfT publishes compendium of motorcycling statistics

The DfT has published a compendium of motorcycling statistics, bringing together for the first time information from a range of sources to provide a comprehensive picture of motorcycling in the UK.

The publication, which has been prepared with help from the Motor Cycle Industry Association, the Motorcycle Action Group and the British Motorcyclists Federation, covers all two-wheeled transport including motorcycles, scooters and mopeds. The statistics are presented in four chapters:

•  Motorcyclists - statistics on motorcycle ownership and training

•  Motorcycles - information about the vehicles

•  Journeys made - the number and purpose

•  Motorcycling safety - statistics on road accidents and casualties
