Bikers take free RIDE
Lancashire County Council has teamed up with Lancashire Constabulary to offer free places on its RIDE motorcycling retraining course.
Keen motorcyclists are being sought to help test the new scheme, which it is hoped will reduce the number of accidents involving motorbikes on the county's roads.
RIDE (Riders Improving and Developing their Experience) may be offered in future as an alternative to prosecution for riders who would normally be convicted of careless riding.
Volunteers attending the course will be able to take advice in the theory elements of the course as well as developing their coping strategies by learning better ways of riding during the practical sessions.
"Crashes involving motorcyclists are still worryingly high and in order to reduce motorbike related casualties riders must be equipped with the training to enable them to ride safely and appropriately," said Rob Winn, motorcycle road safety adviser.
