HA launches 'Stone's throw' pack
School children in Surrey were the first to use a new teaching pack designed to help 10 and 11 year olds understand the dangers of dropping objects onto traffic from motorway bridges.
The pack, Just a Stone's Throw, was launched recently to the teaching profession and road safety organisations by the Highways Agency (HA), in partnership with RoSPA, Surrey County Council and the county's police and fire services.
The pack includes a personal letter from the family of a man who died from injuries received when a brick was thrown from a bridge over a motorway.
The resource is designed for events such as Junior Citizen/LASER (Learning about Safety by Experiencing Risk), and to be used by road safety and HA staff.
"The Highways Agency and its partners have developed this pack to help teachers deliver lessons that could save lives," said Archie Robertson , the HA's chief executive.
