School helps drive home road safety message
Norfolk pupils have designed road safety signs to be positioned along routes to their school in an initiative to drive home safety messages to speeding drivers this winter.
Travel surveys at Catton Grove Middle School highlighted concerns about speeding, and as a result the children participated in art workshops to design the signs, with the support of Norfolk County Council. The youngsters were asked to think of words that would make drivers slow down and images to portray the consequences of speeding.
The signs are used in sets to create animated messages - for example, SLOW DOWN/KIDS/FUTURE/AHEAD. The signs will be used at different locations during the next year, as research shows that drivers become blind and fail to react to signs after a couple of months.
