School travel plan pays off
Bromley's smallest school is celebrating a new playground shelter thanks to a £4,000 school travel plan grant.
Mead Road Infants School in Chislehurst was the first in the borough to complete a travel plan in July last year, and was awarded the grant for doing so.
With the Government requiring all schools to have a travel plan in place by 2010, over 50% of Bromley's schools are currently engaged in the process. 36 schools have completed a plan - and received a total of more than £200,000 in June for doing so -and a further 22 are currently working on one.
"We put our travel plan money towards the construction of a gazebo," said Sue Waters, Mead Road's head teacher. "Staff, pupils, parents and governors are really thrilled - it looks good and blends in well with the surroundings. The children have used it as an outdoor classroom during lesson times and as a quiet area at playtimes and lunchtimes."
