Shock tactics in Thurrock

Thurrock Council has commissioned an award winning drama group in a bid to shock teenagers about the dangers of drug driving.

The Ape Theatre Company performed Pills Thrills @ Automobiles to teenagers in schools and colleges across the borough. The play is a documentary taken from interviews, which tells the true story of four 18 year olds who, after a weekend of drugs and sleep deprivation at a music festival, crashed horrifically on the motorway in 1997. Two of the victims died - one at the scene of the incident and one after being airlifted to hospital.

The play has been backed by the government and ACPO, and debated in the House of Lords. The theatre company was invited into the Houses of Parliament to discuss the play.

"We hope that the play and workshops made such an impact on the audience that the messages will be remembered throughout their future years as motorists," said Denise Langan Thurrock's road safety manager.
